You are welcome and invited to join WRIG for our second "A Day on Our River Festival" on Saturday, September 5th. This celebration is being presented to provide our watershed residence and visitors opportunities to learn more about this Wheatley River Watershed. By providing interesting activities that encourages exploration and fun outdoor experiences in nature, we hope to help strengthen our communities connection to the water that we share and the environment that it sustains. Together we will celebrate our commitment to watershed renewal.

Here is the itinerary

The day will begin with the much anticipated Great Wheatley River Rubber Duck Race Lottery.

11:00 am - THE GREAT WHEATLEY RIVER DUCK RACE lottery - Hundreds of lovely beady eyed yellow ducks will be released into the stream at the Rackham’s Community Pond, where, after a winter of intense training, they will eagerly race downstream toward the Wheatley River Bridge. Be at the bridge to witness the arrival of the ducks as they come into view and battle to be the first to cross under the bridge and over the finish line. The Duck Marshal will announce the first, second and third place winners, and prizes will be awarded at the Wheatley River Community Hall. You still have time to adopt some very fine racing ducks and by so doing, have a chance to win fabulous prizes baskets but ,...don’t wait too much longer. Proceeds from this lottery will go towards WRIG’s work and the Rackham’s Community Pond Restoration Project.

12:00 - 2:30 pm - DEMONSTRATIONS, DISPLAYS & A GUIDED WALK - We invite you and your family to take in the environmental displays at the Wheatley River Community Hall and participate in the free demonstrations, interpretive walk on the Little Bungay and the Water Wizards children’s activities. Get to know your watershed and learn what WRIG and local producers and landowners are doing to improve our river, estuaries and groundwater.

Boats will be provided and this event is open to paddlers of all abilities. The course designers are planning an event that matches your teams speed with some fun and educational trivia. A beautiful trophy by Jacques Gaudreau Fine Woodworking will be awarded to the winners and the devil duck trophy will go to the Team with the best themed canoe/kayak at the WR Hall.
